The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a set of technical standards that apply to Web-based Trainings (WBTs). These standards describe aspects of a WBT’s code that allow communication of information to a learning management system (LMS). While SCORM provides guidelines, the implementation of SCORM within WBTs is not always the same.
If you are considering purchasing WBTs from an outside vendor, you will want to ensure their courses meet the SCORM requirements of TrainTraq before you purchase. NOTE: It is not enough for the vendor to state their course is “SCORM Compliant” as this can mean a variety of things.
The Basics
For each course being evaluated, the following course attributes should be verified by the vendor prior to purchase:
- Cross-platform formats should be used for all media elements
- Only one SCO is allowed per SCORM package
- Prefer content adhere to SCORM 2004, 3rd Edition
- Report status to LMS as Completed/Incomplete
- Content must be provided as a zip file
- Must meet the WBT Requirements for TrainTraq, which includes:
- An accessible alternative version in the form of a Word, PowerPoint, or PDF document
- Must meet WCAG 2.1 AA Accessibility Requirements
- Tested successfully in the TrainTraq test environment
